Crypto platforms licensed under MiCA
Crypto exchanges and apps serving Europe with a MiCA licence on record, how MiCA passporting works, and what protection you do and don't get.
Since the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) took full effect, crypto exchanges serving EU residents need a licence as a crypto-asset service provider in one member state, which they can then passport across the EU. Transitional arrangements under older national regimes ended no later than 1 July 2026.
This section lists crypto platforms with a MiCA licence on our record, including Bitvavo (Netherlands), Bitpanda (Austria), Kraken (Ireland), Coinbase and Bitstamp (Luxembourg), and several exchanges licensed in Malta and Austria.
What MiCA does and does not do
- It does require authorisation, capital, governance, safekeeping and segregation of client assets, and rules against market abuse.
- It does not provide a compensation scheme for crypto-assets or reduce price risk.
