Malta's single regulator

The Malta Financial Services Authority supervises banking, investment services, insurance, pensions and crypto-asset services. Under MiCA it has become one of the most important crypto licensing centres in the EU, authorising platforms such as OKX, Crypto.com and Gemini.

Investment firms

MFSA-licensed investment firms serving EU clients include OANDA Europe Markets, Deriv Investments (Europe), EXANTE's XNT Ltd and Swissquote's Maltese entity. The Investor Compensation Scheme covers 90% of a net liability up to €20,000, and the Arbiter for Financial Services decides disputes free of charge.

Checking a firm

The MFSA's Financial Services Register lists licence holders and their licence categories. Check that the category matches the service – a crypto licence does not authorise CFD trading, and vice versa.
