Central Bank of Ireland
Irish regulator and central bank. Supervises Dublin-headquartered AvaTrade and, since Brexit, the EU entities of several US and UK firms such as Interactive Brokers Ireland.
Ireland's central bank and regulator
The Central Bank of Ireland combines monetary policy (as part of the Eurosystem) with the supervision of banks, investment firms, funds and insurers. It publishes searchable registers of authorised firms and a list of unauthorised firms that have come to its attention.
Firms supervised in Ireland
Dublin-headquartered AvaTrade has long been authorised by the Central Bank. After Brexit, Ireland became the EU base of several US and UK firms, including Interactive Brokers Ireland, and the Central Bank granted a MiCA licence to Kraken. Ireland is also one of Europe's two main fund domiciles, with many UCITS ETFs registered there.
Protection
The Investor Compensation Company DAC (ICCL) pays 90% of an eligible loss up to €20,000 when an Irish investment firm fails, and the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman handles complaints.
