Overview
eToro was founded in 2007 in Tel Aviv and became known for social trading: a feed where users share ideas and a CopyTrader feature that automatically mirrors the trades of other users. It listed on Nasdaq in 2025.
Which entity serves you
EU residents are served by eToro (Europe) Ltd, licensed by CySEC, with ESMA protections on CFDs and the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund. UK clients are served by eToro (UK) Ltd, authorised by the FCA. eToro's crypto services in the EU operate under the MiCA framework.
Products
eToro offers real shares and ETFs (including fractional investing), crypto-assets and CFDs on forex, indices and commodities, plus "Smart Portfolios" built around themes. Whether a trade is executed as a real asset or a CFD depends on the instrument, direction and leverage – long unleveraged stock positions are generally real shares, while short or leveraged positions are CFDs.
Copy trading: read before you copy
Popular investors' statistics show returns, risk scores and drawdowns. Look at the whole history, not the last few months, and remember that copying means you take the same risk. See our guide to copy trading.
Our view
eToro is a strong option for people who value the social layer and want shares, ETFs and crypto in one place. Check currency conversion costs if your bank account is not in the currency of the instruments you trade.
Licences on record
Brands often operate several companies. The one that onboards you depends on where you live, and that company's regulator decides your protection. Confirm the entity on the official register before you deposit.

| FCA Financial Conduct Authority | UK | Official register | |
| ASIC Australian Securities and Investments Commission | Non-European | Regulator website | |
| FSRA (ADGM) Financial Services Regulatory Authority – Abu Dhabi Global Market | Non-European | Regulator website |

Verify eToro yourself
- Find the exact company name in the footer of the website and in the client agreement you are asked to sign.
- Search that name on the register of the regulator listed for your country (links above). Make sure the register shows the same website domain.
- Check warning lists for look-alike names: IOSCO I-SCAN covers alerts from regulators worldwide.
- Never download remote-access software or move money because someone "from the broker" phoned you. How clone-firm scams work.
