How to read the chart
Values show how many units of the other currency one euro buys. A rising line means the euro is strengthening. For EUR/USD a rise from 1.05 to 1.15 means a US stock worth $1,000 is worth about €870 instead of €952 – a currency loss of roughly 9% for a euro-based investor, even if the share price did not move.
Moments worth knowing
- January 2015: the Swiss National Bank abandoned its EUR/CHF floor of 1.20. The franc jumped by double digits within minutes and several brokers failed. Choose the 10Y view for CHF to see it.
- 2022: EUR/USD fell below parity for the first time in two decades as the US Federal Reserve raised rates faster than the ECB.
- Pegs and bands: the Danish krone is held close to 7.46 per euro within ERM II, so its chart is almost flat; the Bulgarian lev was fixed at 1.95583 until Bulgaria adopted the euro in 2026.
