Overview
Trade Republic was founded in Berlin in 2015 and launched its app in 2019. It became one of Europe's largest neobrokers and holds a full German banking licence, operating across many euro-area countries.
Protection
As a bank, Trade Republic holds client cash as deposits covered by the German statutory deposit guarantee up to €100,000, and securities in custody segregated from its own assets.
Products
Shares, ETFs, bonds, derivatives (such as warrants in some markets), crypto and savings plans, with fractional investing. The core use case is monthly ETF savings plans, which are free of order costs.
Our view
For EU residents who mainly want to invest regularly in ETFs, Trade Republic combines low costs with bank-level protection. Active traders will find it basic. See ETF savings plans in Europe.
Licences on record
Brands often operate several companies. The one that onboards you depends on where you live, and that company's regulator decides your protection. Confirm the entity on the official register before you deposit.

Verify Trade Republic yourself

- Search that name on the register of the regulator listed for your country (links above). Make sure the register shows the same website domain.
- Check warning lists for look-alike names: IOSCO I-SCAN covers alerts from regulators worldwide.
- Never download remote-access software or move money because someone "from the broker" phoned you. How clone-firm scams work.
